Yeah.

MOM:

What did you do?

ME:

We rented a movie Friday night and got a pizza. Yesterday we hiked Crawford Creek.

MOM:

Crawford Creek? Isn’t that dangerous?

ME:

Not really.

MOM:

Did you eat anything besides pizza all weekend?

ME:

We cooked out on the grill last night.

MOM:

Was anyone else there?

ME:

A couple of friends from Dad’s work.

What I would really like to tell Mom is that I had a GREAT time with Dad. Crawford Creek was amazing. It probably was a little bit dangerous. We climbed down these really steep banks to get there. I slipped on a rock and almost fell into the creek. The friends that came for dinner included a woman named Lynn. She works for Dad’s company. She seems very nice. We talked about baseball for a long time. I think Dad is interested in her. I think they’ve already even dated.

But I never say any of those things to Mom. I feel like a traitor to Dad, but I can’t bring myself to tell Mom how I really feel. If I even begin to talk about Dad, she looks angry. I know it upsets her, so I just keep my mouth shut and continue to lead my secret life with Dad.
